My booked flight was not properly detected and I was charged

Post by degt »

I found this very annoying and it happened on my flight a couple of days ago. It was my first experience but I think it is good I share it so that a) some of the financial consequences are fixed and b) some FlyNet website improvements are done:

1. My plane was moved to MPMG which is a more suitable airport for regional flights. The form did not mention any cost, I pressed OK and was charged around $2000. Please state costs in the form so that the user knows whether his finances allow it. I am not asking for this to be restituted, but I suggest a cost indication in the web form.

2. Me (the pilot) was stationed at MPTO without any plane. I needed to be ferried to MPMG for my flight. I did the pilot transfer, no costs where mentioned and then I got charged. I am also not asking for these costs to be restituted to me. However same comment as above applies.

3. Now that the pilot and aircraft were on the proper airport I booked a 186nm flight on my turboprop from MPMG to MPDA. I started FS, then started the client.

4. I used the Show Booked Flight tab on the client, my flight was there :-)

5. Then I clicked on the Fly Booked Flight tab and proceeded to do my flight.

6. Had a happy flight with nice landing in MPDA, taxied to gates and turned off engines. The client detected that the plane was on blocks and at the destination. I applied the parking brakes (dot command "."), since I have the CH Pro Pedals, the parking brake is usually not appearing when using the Parking Brake keyboard command, because of that I applied BOTH brakes on the pedals and the aircraft shows "BRAKES" (as opposed to "DIFFERENTIAL BRAKES").

In the end, the client did not autofile any PIREP (since there is no documentation you wonder how the thing works.... something to work at). While it knew I had finished flying (I was still in FS) and on blocks, it also did not provide me with any "code" that I could use to file the PIREP manually on the FlyNet site.

There was nothing else I could do, everything I tried and neither a code nor a PIREP was given to me by the client.

I am not a lover of doing the same thing twice, specially when it involves 45 minutes of my life which I can also use for my social and family life :-).

The booked flight expired. I was CHARGED for the expiration (apparently), I flew for nothing (yes, I would like my flight to be credited, that I would like)

two questions...

You do not mention the "Fueling" part of the client preparation... did you do that?

Also... once you set your parking brakes, you need to wait for the "ding" for the client to register. As far as I know, holding the brakes wont do it.

One more thing I do... Once I hit "Start Flight" I look at my Details, and make sure my sig shows I'm boarding... also, I look at the flight monitor and look for my flight, just to make sure I'm not missing anything.

If you dont want to do that, then you must make sure to read the page the cleint shows after you hit your Start Flight.

It should contain information about your plane, as altitude, engine state etc.

Yes, I was taken to a client page where it asked about the fueling method on which I chose the "new" COMPARE method.

I also saw on the client and the web that the status banner was showing that I was enroute (while I was flying) and then that I was on blocks or something along those lines.

I set the brakes and they stayed there but there was no "ding" and as said nothing was produced.

If you don't have CH Pro Pedals and only use the keyboard for controlling the rudder then I suppose there is no problem. But in my setup I do have Pedals and when you have pedals pressing the "." key on the keyboard to set the parking brake do not work well on all planes. It does show only the "BRAKES" in red at the bottom (I hold both pedals in braking position) even though one presses the Parking Break key.

As I also mentioned some aircraft panels DO have a parking brake lever, in those I do not see the problem with the parking brake.

In any case I believe the client must take those things in consideration, after all it had already detected that I was "on blocks" at the destination airport and my engines where not running anymore. So, the assumption of the client is just too lose to work properly.

Sorry, but you're incorrect. Just because you have CH Pedals, it doesn't mean that you can't use your parking brake. I have CH Pedals and the "Ctrl+." command works just fine. You CANNOT be using the pedal brakes and try to set the parking brakes, it doesn't work. You have to release the toe brakes on the pedals and then set the parking brakes with the keyboard.

"Setting the brakes" isn't enough. It specifically says PARKING BRAKES SET, not SET BRAKES.

There is no need for the client to take into account your inability to do what it asks into consideration. You are the ONLY person in the entire time that the client has been around that has reported that he can't use the parking brake that is a default function of Flight Sim.

I'm sorry, but there will be no adjustment or accomodation for problems that are your own creation and not the creation of the client.

You are very presumptuous to be making statements like yours, especially about a program that IS a BETA and IS being given to you for **FREE**. This client works fine. It's not "too loose" to require something as simple as setting your parking brakes. We cannot be responsible for your inability to use the basic features of Flight Simulator.
