Cargo Charges

I have noticed the Cargo price per mile is different between different flights. Has anyone understood how does this work? Is it related to the departure airport, the destination airport or it is something else? I have personally witnessed 0.04 and 0.17 dollars, and some intermediate values of course.

It would be better if there was a standard figure for all cargo. This would make it easier for airlines to estimate profit.

No, the price per mile value has to depend on the number of cargo and the distance between the two airports. But I'm still trying to set up a reasonable formula for this.

Hmm, if the price depends on the number of cargo flights connecting the two airports we should have (sa CEOs) some easier way to maintain our flights schedule as well as check the worldwide current routes. Since the flights between two airports (competition) is subject to daily change you understand how difficult it would be to modify our schedule all the time (My VA has more than 400 scheduled flights). In addition, it would be really difficult to be as fast as necessary the more pilots an arline has since we don't expect a pilot to check that out before he books a flight.

Also, I am not sure I understand how it works in terms of distance. Is the price per mile getting higher or lower as the distance increases?

I maybe said it a bit mistakable. I meant that the price-per-mile depends on how much cargo your aircraft can handle. The more capacity you have, the cheaper you are able to transport the stuff.
And the hourly costs for a long flight ( depends on distance ) are also less than for a short one. And therefore the price-per-mile also declines.

Ok, it's clear now. Thanks.

I think this is an elegant solution to our initial price problem Konny.

Thanks for coming up with the ingenious again. :)
