Hi, Joe. Congrats for the new forum site.
Going to the point, in our Cargo VA have recently bought a Boeing Chinook CH-47 unit, and we are trying to obtain the maximum commercial benefit, as supossed.
Looking at the FSA data for this aircraft, there is established a limit of 2200 LBS cargo, in spite of both the Boeing official CH-47 page, and Wikipedia website, give us indications about the cargo (useful load) limit for the helicopter is about 20000 or 25000 LBS.
Could you be so kind to update this item regarding the cargo capacity for the CH-47, in order to let us fill up the cargo hold ?
Attached you will find several pics from FSA website, Boeing offcial page and Wikipedia webpage.
Thank you in advance, and good luck.

Thx for the complements on the forum update.

But I don't see anything attached. But agree that the payload number is to low. However I see from the Boeing page for the aircraft shows:
Useful Load 12,565 kg 27,700 lbs.
Which is not very useful as that includes everything including fuel. For our proposes we need to find the limit for how much payload can be carried internally, if you can find that then we can make an update with proper reference to support it.
Another way to figure that out may be to find out what the internal volume of the cargo bay is, we have a general rule of 250kg per cubic meter of space which we use for the cargo bays on airliners. The limit of cargo slung underneath is not useful as they never do that for long distances.

Re: Mistake in cargo capacity?
I just took a look at the numbers for the Ch-47D in our database and wow, the numbers there were totally off, nothing was even close to what it should be, DOW under 5000kg with a MTWO of 40,000kg. So I have reset the numbers based on data from the wikipedia page for the D model but that did not show internal cargo capacity, the airvectors link below does not show the capacity for the D model but says for the C model "6,300 kilograms (13,900 pounds) internally or 10,340 kilograms (22,800 pounds) externally" so I have set the cargo cap at 6300 kg.

Re: Mistake in cargo capacity?
The story continues, I see we also have an entry in the DB for the Boeing Type 234, which is of course the name it was marketed to civilians as, which is also based on the CH-47D. We should probably combine them into one version, but probably using the Type 234 as the name, but with better numbers. But that is a project for another day.

Re: Mistake in cargo capacity?
First of all, sorry for my delay in thank you for your investigation about CH47 cargo helicopter. I am really glad for you interest.
In second place, I agree with you, regarding the cargo capacity of the aircraft. I don't know how was possible all my attached files did not reach you.
Anyway, as yourself worked out, the medium payload capacity of the CH-47, is around 20.000 LBS. When you finally carry out the work of obtaining a single CH47 cargo model as a mix of civil and military models, please bear in mind the final cargo paylod should be near (may be a little less) 20.000 LBS.
Once more, thank you very much for you good work.
