new client: fuel problems and hanging
Hi
Thanks for all the work on the new client. I know it takes hundreds of hours to get these things up and running.
Thought you might like a little feedback so far: I fly RFP quite a lot and I had no problems with 3b (except it didn't fill the reserve tanks but that's not a problem).
With the new client I have all sorts of problems on fuelling. I see that it asks for the fuel to add, not for the total fuel load as the old one did, so I played along and entered 93000lb to bring the total to my required 199000lb as there was already 106000lb on board according to the client. The result was way too much fuel on board and I had to use RFP's own fueller to correct it. I tried this twice and the same thing happened, with a complete system restart in between.
Possibly as a result of my interfering with the fuel, the client has now hung, so presumably my flight won't be logged and I'll have to do a costly cancellation. If only I could continue with 3b... but autoupdate won't let me.
Best regards

OK, trying something different: a re-run of the flight I did yesterday (then I was using 3b): LPMA to EGCC in the PMDG 739.
Fuelling issue again. 3779lb of fuel showed in the tanks already, according to the client, so I entered 24221lb of fuel to add, to bring the total to 28000lb for the flight to EGCC. After refuelling the client showed approx. 32000lb on board, as did the FMC. So the initial fuel on board seems to be added into the equation twice which would also account for the problems with the RFP fuel earlier today.
This time I didn't interfere manually* with the fuel load, partly because I can live with an extra 3779lb, and partly because this time (unlike earlier with the RFP) the client 'greyed out' the Flights and Aircraft FS9 menu buttons, as it should.
(*Earlier with the RFP I altered the fuel using the RFP pressure fuel loader, not the FS9 menu, but the FS9 fuel menu was available with the client running: I used it to check the fuel load.)
So far so good with the 739, the extra fuel notwithstanding. Passing FL250 on the way to cruise. Watch this space...

Well, safely at Manchester with no PC crashes this time. Definitely something amiss with the fuel calculation though. The PIREP for the flight is here.
It appears that the client registered the amount of fuel I asked for, i.e. 10986kg which is as near as dammit to the 24221lb I entered into the client. But some 32000lb actually ended up in the tanks, which I guess is the 24221lb I asked for, plus the (almost) 4000lb already on board, plus that very same 4000lb again.
So next time I fly I'm going to try entering into the client:
[total fuel requirement] - 2x[fuel already on board] and see if that works any better.

Not a lot, really. You fellas are doing a superb job and it's appreciated. There's a principle in programming that 'the more great stuff you do, the more people seem to expect'.DaKurt wrote:Just tell me what you think could be done better?
I guessed the fuel thing was probably a minor bug in an expression somewhere.
With ongoing gratitude,

Thanks, I'd been too brain-dead to suss out how the 'compare' mode worked.CAPFlyer wrote:Alternately Rob, try fueling the plane using the RFP system first then starting the client and using the "Compare" mode. This may solve your issue since it allows you to set the fuel the way you want and then the client will figure out how much you added.
Will definitely try it.

At the risk of going off-topic a bit... RFP is the 'Ready For Pushback' 747-200 Classic payware from Ralph's Panel Shop. Unfortunately it's no longer available for download as Ralph is now working on other things, so the only way to get it is to lay hands on a CD from somewhere.Jollyroger wrote:What is RFP and where can we/ I get it?

After my unbridled glee last night, completing EGCC-OEJN in the 742 with smooth fuelling, no PC crashes and no earache from the wife for doing too much simming, I notice in the cold light of day that my PIREP looks a bit odd.
I did fuel up, with 199000lb, using the 'compare' method, but the PIREP says I didn't buy any fuel. I did though! I did, I did, I did!
I guess the latest version of the client will iron that out. Now can I sneak OEJN-EGCC past the wife later today...
